Bucs, Sekhukhune Book Spots in Nedbank Cup Final
Orlando Pirates and Sekhukhune United will be facing each other in the Nedbank Cup final.
The Buccaneers went head-to-head with their longtime rivals, Kaizer Chiefs, at Johannesburg’s FNB Stadium on Saturday, 6 May, winning the bout 2-1.
“Our mental approach to this game was different to the other games because I think for the previous derbies, we weren’t in a good space,” commented coach Jose Riveiro in a post-match interview. “There were many things that affected us … that didn’t allow us to be in the condition that we wanted to be in.
“In this game, things were different in our camp, and it showed that we were competitive in a scenario that we weren’t competitive in before.”
The following day, Sekhukhune took on Stellenbosch FC at the latter’s home turf of Danie Craven Stadium. Ultimately, the former won 4-3 on penalties.
Orlando Pirates and Sekhukhune United will compete for the Nedbank Cup at Orlando Stadium in Soweto, Gauteng next Saturday, 13 May. The winner will not only receive the title and bragging rights, but also earn the opportunity to participate in the upcoming CAF Champions League season.
